Martin has served Springfield Baptist Church since July of 1996. He was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He and his wife, Beverly, met at the Arkansas Baptist Assembly at Siloam Springs in the summer of 1978 and were married in August of 1979. They have two children, Meredith (born in 1982), and David (born in 1984). Meredith is married to Spencer Denton and they live in Memphis, Tennessee. Their daughter, Hannah Grace, was born on October 24, 2013.  David is married to Sarah Lewis and they live in Telford, Tennessee.  Their son, Oliver Keith, was born on August 20, 2012.  Their second child, Kent Taylor, was born on July 16, 2015.

Martin graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1975 with a degree in music, and from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1977 with a Master’s Degree in Religious Education. He has served churches in Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee and worked for six years as Youth Consultant in the Sunday School Department of the Arkansas Baptist Convention.

He enjoys reading, watching old movies on television, playing golf (in warm weather) and writing. He has had articles published in several magazines and is the author of two books: “When Did Caesar Become a Salad and Jeremiah a Bullfrog?” and “It’s a Dog-Eat-Dog World and Cats Are Waiting Tables.” Martin loves music (especially from the 70’s), the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Denver Broncos, and the Texas Rangers.  His favorite verse of scripture is Mark 10:45.
